Travel with Teens

Six months is an almost unimaginable separation from friends when you've just finished your first semester of high school, but Joanna can snap chat her every move instantly to friends 10,000 miles away. (Luke is a little more restrained on social media.) Back in pre-Internet days we old travelers can remember cramming as much news as we could on the two sides of a light blue aerogram and sending it off the family and friends. Phone calls were too expensive, and Skype and Google Hangout were years in the future, so you waited a month at the minimum to get a response to every bit of news you sent.

(This photo taken on the plane from Orlando to Atlanta on December 31. By the time we stepped off the Amsterdam to Entebbe flight about 24 hours later nobody was looking quite so chipper.)
